Hi, I'm Emily, but my favorite
people call me Ms. Baker.

teaching philosophy
All children deserve an extraordinary education no matter their race, religion, or socioeconomic status. In my classroom, providing the best education involves three factors: order, genuine relationships, and innovative teaching.
order

Order in the classroom consists of students following rules and procedures, staying organized, and upholding a strong work ethic. I set my students to a high bar because I believe structure empowers their abilities to excel in the real world. On the first day of school, we write a contract as a class that the students and myself are expected to follow.
relationships

Part of holding my students to such high expectations comes with building strong, genuine relationships with each child. I’m passionate about investing in my students’ lives and learning about their hobbies, friends, and home life in order to design lessons centered around their interests and provide social emotional support.
innovative teaching
I strive to design lessons that are relevant to my students' interests, personalized to their aptitudes and abilities, and responsive to their culture and identities. It's all about not being afraid to get creative, be silly, and try new things that will foster a love for learning.
singing and dancing are my
jam

I incorporate popular music into my lessons frequently because my students love it almost as much as I do. These amazing 4th graders to the right nailed all of their multiplication facts, but they were struggling with their 4s. It was only appropriate to utilize @teachingontable's Billie Eilish multiplication remix.
